LASIK Laser Eye Surgery: Correcting Your Poor Eyesight
Having poor eyesight is always a disadvantage. People who cannot see very well often do not get the same opportunities as those people who have 20-20 vision. If you are one of those people who have eye problems and these problems are interfering with your day to day activities, it is time for you to consider getting laser eye treatment. Talk to your doctor about the possibility of getting LASIK laser eye surgery. LASIK eye surgery is one of the most well accepted eye treatment in the country today. Since this type of treatment was approved by the FDA sometime in the 1990's thousands of people all over the country have undergone this procedure and regained their good eyesight. Many of these people never had to wear eyeglasses again after the surgery.
Getting Started
Before anything else, you have to understand that not all people can undergo LASIK laser eye surgery. To be considered as a good candidate for laser eye surgery, you have to be at least 21 years old. According to experts, the human eyes continue to grow until you reach the age of 21 so you cannot have some of the tissues in your eyes removed during laser eye surgery before that time. Subjecting your eyes to laser surgery before you reach the right age can cause a lot of problems for you in the future.
Aside from the age requirement, you need to have healthy eyes that are free from corneal scars, retinal problems and other types of eye diseases to be considered as good candidate for laser eye surgery. According to experts, eye diseases can cause complications during surgery. To avoid complications, most doctors would not perform laser eye surgery on people who are at risk of complications.
People who have mild to moderate cases of nearsightedness are good candidates for laser eye surgery. If you happen to have other problems other than nearsightedness, you should discuss other options with your doctor. When your doctor says that you are not qualified for eye surgery, do not insist upon it. On the other hand, if you are qualified to undergo laser eye surgery, do not just jump into the opportunity of getting one. Before you decide on going under the laser beam, you need to know more about the procedure, the cost of the procedure and the possible side effects that it may have. Discuss all these things thoroughly with your doctor before you decide on having eye surgery.
